+ Tax Planning
Credible reports have shown that conventional plants are roughly 30% efficient, with about 70% of the energy produced lost at the plant and along the line to the end user. Micro or dispersed generation utilizing excess thermal energy from power generation to heat and cool buildings produces up to 85% efficiency.
Significant tax incentives are available which shorten pay back periods and offer significant energy savings over the life of renewable investments. You will need to closely monitor the cost curve as technology advances, watching for the optimum time to invest in the most cost effective energy production.
As you analyze your options, remember to closely analyze the technical merits of equipment, the quality and availability of service and repair, as well as the initial costs. We can help. Please contact us today.

Section 179D of the Internal Revenue Code allows immediate tax deductions for energy-efficient projects placed in service from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2013.
In addition to 179D benefits, energy efficient features may also qualify for utility rebates or state tax incentives. Generally, these deductions may be claimed by the owner of the building. In the case of government buildings, the designer (architect, engineer, design/build contractor) may claim the deductions.
Design Phase Tax Planning utilizes Cost Segregation. What is Cost Segregation?
According to the IRS: “Cost segregation is a factually intensive determination that is based on complex tax law and engineering analysis.” A Cost Segregation Study “CSS” is a systematic analysis of all capital expenditures in order to separate them into the most optimum asset classifications based on tax law, current case law, court ruling, congressional action, Internal Revenue Service code and specifications and current case law, and provides your CPA with a quality IRS compliant study.
